Fawzia Koofi Met with President Karzai

Fawzia Koofi met with President Hamid Karzai to talk about her last trip to Darwaz, a district in northern Afghanistan, where she learned that villagers are caught between many different problems.

Ms. Koofi travelled to the remote district a few days ago after getting a hint on people issues. Returning from the trip, Ms Koofi organized a seminar of two days with Afghanistan President and local representatives.

Ms. Koofi called on government to help the people whose lives are at risk. Fawzia Koofi focused on some major issues in the two-day seminar. Such as building roads for the villagers that link them with the city of Fayzabad. Constructing bridges on Amu River that will connect Darwaz district to Tajikistan. Darwaz is a few miles away from Tajikistan. If they have such an opportunity its easier for villagers to solve their social and economic dilemmas through using the borders.

Ms. Koofi also argued about food shortage. Many areas received aids from government and foreign organizations, but since Darwaz is a remote region, the villagers were left without any food during this wintry weather. President Hamid Karzai announced a 10 million dollar project to launch road construction. The German Ambassador, who also attended the seminar, promised three million dollars to help build the bridges.
